Okay, I'm going to mash this with Savage Species and the Scarred Lands -- we're talking straight-up D&D 3.5 here, with a lot of the Scarred Lands source material involved and perhaps a touch of The Book of Vile Darkness.

Vladawen, the former high priest of the now-dead elven god, has found a High Ritual that will ressurrect his god. The ritual requires him to travel around the whole of Scarn in 80 days, without use of teleportation magic -- not that he has access to any, really.

Here's the twist: The PCs aren't companions or allies of Vladawen. They're his enemies, trying to stop him. Either titanspawn (probably Chern-worshippers) and/or Charduni would have reasons not to want the Forsaken elves to cast off Chern's curse. (A titanspawn/renegade Charduni alliance would be particularly interesting.) The idea here is a sort of "reverse dungeon" feel -- the PCs are monsters trying to thwart an adventuring party led by a powerful NPC. PCs would start at, say, 10th level, and this might be an opportunity to do troupe-style play with D&D.

After all, Phileas Fogg is less interesting than the challenges he encounters, so why not cast the PCs as those challenges?
